AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS

This World has become a mobile world. Everybody has its own personal vehicle and people are enjoying independence of mobility.
It has become possible by the
technological advancement and human effort. Now we have very mature Automotive
Industry.
I would like to share my knowledge about
Automotive Electrical Systems.
Now-a-days, a car or a bike is full on
electrical and electronic systems.
But there are basically three electrical
systems exists.
1. Basic system is Starting System.
2. Charging System.
3. Ignition System.
1. Starting system consists of two major components which are
Starter Motor and Battery.
2. Charging system consists of Alternator/Generator/Magneto,
Regulator & Rectifier.
3. Ignition system consists of Ignition
coils, spark plug and ECU.

In recent times, electronic functions are increasingly getting used in Cars & other automobile system.
Starting System consists of Starter motor
and Battery.
Starter motors are usually two types in cars and bikes.
1. Direct drive starter motors.
2. Gear reduction type.
Direct drive motors are made-up of electro-magnets.
Gear reduction type are using permanent magnets.
Starter motor is simple DC motor which is being used in Cars and Bikes.

This motor consists of a Rotor and a Stator.
In simple terms, Rotor is a rotatory part of motor.
and Stator is a stationary part of motor.
Most of the times Stator is an Electro-Magnet or a Permanent Magnet and,
Rotor is armature /coil which has DC current and it generate flux
which gives force to rotate engine flywheel.
Depends upon motor design Rotor or Stator can be vice-versa.
The thickness of coil wire and magnetic power of the magnet are depends upon the force required to rotate engine.
Batteries are very much important part of
our life since its evolution.
In Automotive, primary purpose of batteries are to start the vehicles.
In modern days, batteries are widely used for other purposes also i.e. Radio/Audio, Horn, Room Lamps, HVAC, DRL (Daytime Running Lamps), Brake Lamp, EPS, ABS, Airbags, Electronic Controllers and few advanced features like Navigation, Bluetooth, Mobile calls by Infotainment of Cars.
Many more researches and trails are happening for more-more use of electronic systems in Cars and Bikes which enhances the use/importance of Battery in automotive.
Lead-Acid Battery
In Automotive, primary purpose of batteries are to start the vehicles.
In modern days, batteries are widely used for other purposes also i.e. Radio/Audio, Horn, Room Lamps, HVAC, DRL (Daytime Running Lamps), Brake Lamp, EPS, ABS, Airbags, Electronic Controllers and few advanced features like Navigation, Bluetooth, Mobile calls by Infotainment of Cars.
Many more researches and trails are happening for more-more use of electronic systems in Cars and Bikes which enhances the use/importance of Battery in automotive.
There are different types of batteries out of them, Lead-acid batteries are widely used in Automobiles.
In hybrid design vehicles, Lithium-Ion batteries are being used.
Lead-acid batteries have better life than other batteries and these batteries are capable of charging and discharging.
